First curriculum ever PART TWO ✨ LETTER OF THE WEEK 🔡 This program is very good complement to thecraftyclassroom’s Shape of the Week, as you do the same set of tasks each day of the week for a different letter. I used this to solidify my kinder's letter recognition and to introduce the English alphabet to my ESL learner. We skipped talking about the sounds the letters make because I knew I would do a structured phonics curriculum down the road.

Both of these programs were a fun and gentle start to official homeschooling. Both kids developed an infectious excitement every Monday morning to get the new shape and letter.

You could take a minimalist approach and do this program as-is like I did. Or you could beef it up by reading letter-themed books, eating foods that begin with your letter of the week, or introducing some phonemic awareness activities.

It's funny to look back on this now because we're such a different place academically! I'll be sharing that progression over the next week or so... and then I'll give you a rundown of what's up for summer learning and my 2021-2022 curriculum picks!

Looking back on my very first curriculum purchase PART ONE ✨ After piecing together free resources for a couple of months in our first days of homeschool, I was basically extremely miserable. I needed someone to do some thinking for me... and I needed more structure in the day for all our sakes.

Enter the thecraftyclassroom's Letter of the Week and Shape of the Week programs!

✨ SHAPE OF THE WEEK 🟡 🟪 was an absolutely delightful intro to more official homeschooling after the exhaustion of putting it all together myself each evening for the next day.

The repetitive nature of this program was perfect for helping the kids work on it independently after just a couple of weeks. Each day of the week had the same set of tasks, and it was fun to watch them get in a groove. Working through this program helped inspire them to notice shapes all around them and it got them really interested in mazes which is just 🍰

Cash can’t spell to save his life. Seriously. Give him a bunch of numbers to memorize just once or twice and he will remember it months later, but a CVC word outside of “Dog” or “Cat” throws him for a loop. It’s maddening! So I jumped at the chance to review Superstar Spelling by The Crafty Classroom (https://craftyclassroom.com) because I wanted to see if magic was real. Could this actually help my Sonshine with spelling?

The Crafty Classroom creates a number of different learning resources and Superstar Spelling is a printable spelling curriculum that takes all of the drama out of this subject. For grades K - 3, it takes the usual spelling practice and turns it on its head. It’s not just worksheets - it’s a scheduled plan of success including a variety of activities for each day of the week. Want to know what I think is the coolest part of this curriculum? You can input up to 20 of your own spelling words into the list and they will populate automatically throughout ALL of the printable worksheets! For the first time ever, without having to create materials from scratch, I can have a bilingual spelling list!

Our word list was color names. Ten were in English and ten were in Spanish. I printed out the weeks work, separated them into my daily folders, and felt the weight of spelling fall from my shoulders. After that it all became very routine. I gave Cash the sheets with his morning work and he enjoyed it thoroughly. These don’t look or feel like spelling worksheets - each very different activity was a maze, game, art activity or puzzle - which he was already accustomed to having in the morning to wake his brain up. At the end, with little effort on my part, he knew ALL of his spelling words! I’ve found my magic!

It doesn’t matter if you have a reluctant speller like I do, or a kid that loves spelling - The Crafty Classroom’s Superstar Spelling is sure to work like magic for you as well. And what kid (and their very tired parent) doesn’t like magic?

Learning Our Letters / Just Scribbling

Both girls MUCH PREFER scribbling at the moment. But we are working on letter recognition (going well) and writing (work in progress!!) With our 3 year old!

I love combining these free printables with our great Usborne Books!

We started homeschooling today! Yes I understand that it’s February and he already attends preschool. BUT, we’re quarantining after going to a wedding over the weekend, and my dude is ready to read! So I found a fantastic curriculum by thecraftyclassroom and bought some binders, got my laminator out and today we started! He did great and it was so cool watching him improve in just the hour and a half that we did it. Teaching has always been a love of mine, but homeschooling was never a thing I thought I was interested in doing with my own kids. And yet here I am, testing waters that I hope lead to an ocean we get to hang out in for the next several years! So here we go! ...

Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies Shelfie- 🥰🥗🍉🍳🧘🏽‍♀️
Love this theme because it can go in so many directions! This week will cover everything from Dental Health to feelings to eating healthy. For now, let’s start with our new shelfie.
Little 3 loves these Spark create imagine learning buddy dolls (I got them fb Marketplace but I think they are on walmart web). Although, she can’t tie yet, she enjoyed working her fine motor as she zipped, buttoned, velcroed, slipped through, and put things into their pockets. She also really enjoyed putting together the emotions eggs and talking about their feelings faces. (dollartree Easter purchase from last year). She loves these discountschoolsupply feelings figures (we keep in our safe zone to help talk about our feelings). Last year, in the classroom, I made matching cards for these figures by taking pictures and adding words on a word document and then printing out. (I saw that learningfortomorrow does this with language cards as well- go check out her idea).
We are having all the feelings about this shelf 🤣😉❤️
